Packing guide

How to carry fishing gear on an e-bike

An e-bike can haul a full day's gear — if you pack it right. Here's how to load rods, tackle, and a cooler so the bike stays balanced on the way to the water.

1. Start with a rear cargo rack

A rear rack is the foundation: it carries your tackle box or small cooler and gives rod holders a place to mount. Our cargo rack is rust-resistant aluminum with an oiled bamboo deck and carries up to 55 lbs.

2. Keep weight low and centered

Put the heaviest items — cooler, water, tackle — low on the rack and close to the seat. Lighter, bulky items go on top. A top-heavy load makes the bike wobble, especially on sand or soft banks.

3. Strap everything down

Gravel roads shake loose anything that isn't secured. Use cargo straps across the rack in an X pattern, and check them again after the first mile.

4. Use a bag for the small stuff

A seat-post bag keeps pliers, line, lures, snacks, and your license handy without digging through the tackle box.

5. Rods go in holders, not your hand

Never ride holding rods. Mount them in locking rod holders angled away from your wheels, or break them down with a collapsible rod.

6. Keep your phone mounted

A handlebar phone mount keeps maps, weather, and tide apps in view so you can find new spots without stopping.

7. Watch your weight limit

Add up you, your gear, and the bike, and stay under the maker's rating. A heavy load also cuts battery range, so plan a reserve for the ride home.
